Justin Schrader’s website was linked at the FWA some days ago. On his site I stumbled upon a small motion graphics peace you should check out.

What I liked about it, is the clever integration of 3D-material into the LiveAction-Video. The effects feel very natural and motivated by the material.

DEFASTEN does very abstract digital animations. His works have an unique and intriguing atmosphere and great sound design. I think mosst compelling about the pieces is their changing dynamic - calm and hectic scenes take turn to create very symbolic visual metaphors.

“DEFASTEN believes in remodernist ideals and the nihilist difference of our alleged unified society. In the future, the alphabet does not exist. Focusing on digital animation, DEFASTEN delineates parallels within information, space, and the urban landscape at the intersection of digital media practices. This direction reflects an interest in the fragmentation of media, contemporary society, and the post-modern condition.”

The master of sampling - Amon Tobin - has a new website called Field Excursions online, which illustrates his work progress.

The site is an “audiovisual environment populated with sounds sampled from Amon Tobin’s field recording sessions.”

On the site you’ll meet some strange creatures which interact with you through sound. This interaction is recorded in a individual video clip. Very experimental and progressive approach to present a musician on the net.

Also check out his new album Foley Room.

If myspace makes your eyes bleed, you should check out VIRB. The have a very clean and crisp interface with many customization options.

And make sure to check out their Widescreen-Video player.

PSST! 2

“The mission of PSST is to produce original short films through the collaboration of different teams of designers, directors, and animators. Each film is comprised of three sections produced by three different teams. This process is the whole idea behind PSST! – a technique derived from the Dadaist game of Exquisite Corpse and the children’s game Telephone and applied to the arts of motion graphics, animation and film-making.”

The first PSST Project had six films and was released in July of 2006.
PSST! 2 was released in March of 2007 with nine films.

Mario Klingemann spoke at the OFFF festival this weekend.
He presented some of his digital found footage experiments, where he uses data from the internet and recombines them in his flash experiments. The piece Flickeur is very atmospheric and suggestive, creating a very poetic work of net art.

Flickeur (pronounced like Voyeur) randomly retrieves images from Flickr.com and creates an infinite film with a style that can vary between stream-of-consciousness, documentary or video clip.”

Island of Consciousness is a further development of the concept, together with sound artist Oleg Marakov.

OFFF, the 3 day Festival for digital creation culture in Barcelona starts today!

offf.jpg

It’s a wonderful festival with an impressive list of speakers and a very nice venue in the middle of the city. They cover subjects ranging from motion graphics to web design and progressive technologies. Last year they invited me to show my short film Palindrome there. This year I can’t go there, but to console me (and all of you guys:-), the OFFF-team together with NTMY have set up a site to provide you with photos, interviews and updates from the festival.

Paint by Numbers

“Exploring the digital medium as a means for creating compositions through the logic of code and a little playful imagination.

about movingweb.
moving web is place to share thoughts about all forms of moving content on the web. As bandwidth keeps growing, the internet will converge with the moving media: film, tv & video.
Therefore the Internet as a textbased information medium seems to be the past – moving web explores the future possibilities of the internet as a more immersive entertainment medium.

We choose a rather broadly based perspective on the theme of motion on the web – Flash Video, Mobile Web, WebTV, Viral Video, Interactive Narration – discussed with the emphasis on how moving content will change the web.
